40 Years Running: Coillte 10K Set for Big Anniversary in Dundrum this July

Few races in Ireland can say they’ve stood the test of time quite like this one. On Wednesday 2nd July at 8pm, the Coillte 10K will celebrate its 40th consecutive running in Dundrum, Co. Tipperary and if early interest is anything to go by, it’s shaping up to be a special night.
Run by the dedicated crew at Dundrum AC, this race has grown from local fixture to one of the standout summer 10Ks on the calendar. Flat, fast, friendly, and famously well-fed — it’s road racing done the right way.
Entry Info & That Famous Towel
Entries are now open via Eventmaster, and they’re coming in hot. Runners are encouraged to sign up early, not just to secure their spot, but to guarantee the coveted embroidered souvenir towel — a collector’s item in its own right at this point.
Race numbers and towels can be collected from 6pm on race day at Dundrum Community Hall (E34 EY28), which also serves as HQ for the evening.
Behind the scenes, the club has once again teamed up with Niall O’Sullivan’s Premier Timing Systems to manage what’s expected to be another strong turnout
A Whistle from the Past
This year’s official race starter will be Dominic Moore, a fitting choice. Dominic took third place in the very first Coillte 10K back in 1986, and has stayed connected ever since, even donating the Tim Crowe Trophy for the first Tipperary finisher each year. It’s only right that he’s the one to get the 40th edition underway.
Course, Craic and Competition
The Coillte 10K is known for being both fast and fair, a course that rewards fitness without any nasty surprises. Ideal for club runners chasing a summer PB, and just as appealing for those keen to soak up the atmosphere and earn their place at the post-race spread.
And when it comes to food, Dundrum doesn’t mess about. The post-race feast is legendary, with sandwiches, buns, and enough tea to drown your DOMS.
A Roll Call of Champions
Over the years, the race has played host to some of the country’s top distance runners.
The full list of winners from 1986 to 2024 reads like a who’s who of Irish road racing — from John O’Halloran to Lizzie Lee, with appearances from Olympians, national champions, and even a Tanzanian international.
Race Recap:
So there you have it. 40 years of club history, community pride, and class running, all rolled into one summer evening. With a towel thrown in as a sweetener, the Coillte 10K is waiting.
Sign up now, and we’ll see you in Dundrum.
