How To Watch Irish Athletes In Action In Croatia This Evening

Four Irish athletes are in action at this evening's 🇭🇷 Boris Hanžeković Memorial in Zagreb, Croatia, one of the premier stops on the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series.

First on the track iss Emma Moore in the women's 800m. Moore has continued her steady rise this season, making her senior outdoor Irish debut before producing a lifetime best of 2:00.71 at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava against one of the strongest fields of the year. That performance moved her inside the European B standard, leaving her just outside the current qualification quota in 34th place, with the top 31 progressing. Another strong result this evening would further strengthen her hopes of earning a place at next summer's championships.

First on the track is Cathal Doyle in the men's 1500m. Doyle has raced three times outdoors so far this season, with his quickest performance coming at the Paavo Nurmi Games earlier this month, where he clocked 3:34.00. That leaves him just half a second outside the automatic qualifying standard for next summer's European Athletics Championships. With a personal best of 3:32 set around this time last year, a strong run in Zagreb could put the qualifying mark firmly within reach.

Benjamin Richardson is next up in the men's 200m. Although currently unable to represent Ireland in international championship competition, Richardson continues to compete as an Irish athlete on the World Athletics circuit, although he won't be eligible to don the green vest until the autumn of 2027. The sprinter has enjoyed a busy campaign, finishing fourth over 150m at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava in 15.14, a performance that would have been an Irish record had he been eligible. Last weekend he also ran a 10.14 for 100m at the FBK Games, another performance that was comfortably inside the European qualifying standard. He will be hoping to continue building momentum as the outdoor season progresses.

The final Irish athlete in action is Mark English who returns to the 800m after an eventful few weeks on the international circuit. The Donegal athlete has already claimed a Diamond League victory and a second place (technically non-DL) finish this season, while also setting a new Irish record of 2:15.82 over the rarely contested 1000m at the Golden Spike meeting. After failing to finish in Oslo two weeks ago, English will be looking to get back into rhythm in his specialist event.
