Ray O’Connor Returns as Race Director for the 2026 Connemarathon

Ray O’Connor, the original founder of the iconic Connemara International Marathon, is set to return as Race Director for the 2026 event, which will take place on Sunday, 19th April 2026.
Affectionately known as the Connemarathon, the event has long held a special place in the hearts of runners from across the globe, celebrated for its breathtaking scenery, warm community spirit, and the unique challenge it presents. Ray’s return to the helm marks a significant moment in the event’s rich history.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be back,” said Ray O’Connor. “Connemara holds a special kind of magic, and I’m looking forward to working with the team once again to deliver another unforgettable race day.”
The organisers would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dolmen Sports, who took exceptional care of the Connemarathon in the past years. Their stewardship upheld the event’s high standards and helped maintain its renowned atmosphere and professionalism. We wish Andrew, Chris, Eoin, Conor and the team at Dolmen Sports the very best as they continue their own running legacy with the Kinvara Rock & Road 10k, half, and 3/4 Marathon, taking place on 7th March 2026.
Runners can expect the same world-class race day experience that has defined the Connemarathon over the past two decades – with a few surprises in store to celebrate Ray’s return and the continuing evolution of this much-loved event.
The 2026 Connemarathon will take place on April 19th. For more information and to register, visit www.connemarathon.com
