Two distances. One powerful message. The Run with Dunne road race is back for its third year, and it’s not just about PBs, it’s about community, inclusion, and showing the power of sport at every level.

Set to take place on August 3rd, this fully inclusive road race has quickly become a highlight of the summer calendar, attracting everyone from seasoned club runners to young wheelchair racers taking on their very first kilometre.

Entries are now open here

A Champion’s Race

First launched to honour the achievements of local wheelchair athlete Cillian Dunne, the event has grown into something far bigger. “Cillian has been a great ambassador for our club (Borriskokane AC),” says race organiser Amanda O’Farrell. “The race promotes the club’s ethos of inclusion.”

Now in its third year, the event has helped spark a surge in para-athletics in Borrisokane, with Amanda proudly noting the rise of “six athletes including super twins Paul and Roisin Maher — both Munster para champions over the last two years!”

It’s a race built around more than speed. It’s about support, celebration, and letting young and old, wheeled or running, have a place on the start line.

A Route for Everyone

The day begins at 11:45am with the 1K Children’s Race (under-13s), before the 5K road race kicks off at 12 noon. The 5K route starts from Main Street, Borrisokane, and takes runners through the town and surrounding roads.

It’s a beginner-friendly, chip-timed course with “a nice fast layout, a small hill or two, but you’ll receive massive support along the route from the residents,” Amanda says.

Whether you’re pushing for a new best time or pushing someone you love in a chair, it’s a welcoming road for all.

Medals, Music & Mickey Mac

Every finisher will receive a Run with Dunne medal, and there’s €100 up for grabs for the first male and female finishers, along with €50 for the first male and female over-50s. There are also trophies for the top three boys and girls in the 1K kids race.

Then it’s time to celebrate. DJ Mickey Mac will be spinning the tunes, and refreshments will be flowing at Tess Burke’s, where the presentation takes place.

There’s no goody bag waffle here,  just a proper feel-good buzz and a warm welcome that runners remember for all the right reasons.
