Quinn Produces Standout Performance As Irish NCAA Athletes Deliver Across US Meets

The NCAA outdoor season continued at full tilt across the United States over the weekend, with Irish athletes delivering another impressive collection of performances across conference championships and late season invitationals. There were podium finishes from coast to coast, an Irish one two in a championship final, and a standout breakthrough jump from Siún Quinn that firmly placed her among the top young talents in Irish athletics.
Irish Distance Runners Impress At MAAC Championships
At the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships in Emmitsburg, Maryland, Iona University’s Irish contingent produced one of the most eye catching displays of the weekend. Scott Fagan (Iona University) claimed victory in the men’s 10000m in 31:17.98, narrowly ahead of teammate Seán Lawton (Iona University), who finished 2nd in 31:23.72 to complete an Irish one two in the championship race. Fagan also added a 3rd place finish in the men’s 5000m in 14:36.99, while Lawton placed 7th in the same event in 14:52.43. In the women’s distance events, Muireann Duffy (Iona University) finished 7th in the women’s 10000m in 38:28.54.
Quinn Produces One Of The Performances Of The Weekend In Illinois
At the Illini Tune Up in Champaign, Illinois, Siún Quinn (University of Illinois) delivered a huge breakthrough in the women’s high jump, clearing 1.85m to take victory and produce one of the standout Irish performances of the weekend. The jump marked a new personal best, moved her to 8th on the Irish all time list, secured the World U20 qualifying standard, and also established a new Irish national lead. Teammate Elizabeth Ndudi (University of Illinois) added a 3rd place finish in the women’s long jump with a best leap of 5.97m.
Brice Clears Season Best At America East Championships
At the America East Conference Championships in Lowell, Massachusetts, Una Brice (UMass Lowell) secured 5th place in the women’s pole vault, clearing 3.64m during a strong conference championship showing on home turf.
Spillane Continues Strong Season In Eugene
At the Oregon Twilight in Eugene, Oregon, Oisín Spillane (University of Portland) continued his strong outdoor campaign with a 2nd place finish in the men’s 3000m steeplechase in 8:41.87 at the famous Hayward Field venue.

At the Franson Last Chance meet in Azusa, California, Claragh Keane (Adams State University) placed 12th in the women’s 5000m in 16:59.84, while Ronan McMahon-Staggs (Unattached) ran 1:49.64 to finish 7th in the men’s 800m.

At the West Point Twilight in West Point, New York, Margaret Hayden (Garden State Track Club) secured 2nd place in the women’s hammer throw with a best effort of 63.27m.

At the Arkansas Twilight in Fayetteville, Arkansas, Sarah Hosey (University of Tulsa) competed in the women’s 1500m, finishing 14th in 4:29.45.

At the Ward Haylett Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas, James Ezeonu (Kansas State University) placed 5th in the men’s 200m in 21.49.
