Watch: Sean Aigboboh Smashes Two Decade Old Irish 200m Record

There had been a sense building around Sean Aigboboh this season that something big was coming.
Since arriving at the University of Houston last winter, the Tallaght AC sprinter has quietly put together a run of form that demanded attention. Strong indoor outings rolled into an even sharper outdoor campaign, with victories stacking up and personal bests continuing to fall. Across both seasons, he has looked every bit a national-level force over 200 metres.
It felt less like a question of if, and more a question of when.
That answer came on home soil in Texas on last night at the Cameron Burrell Invitational.
Aigboboh produced a superb run to take the win in 20.27 seconds, setting a new personal best and, more importantly, a new Irish national record over 200 metres. In doing so, he broke a mark that had stood for nearly two decades.
The previous record of 20.30 seconds, set by Paul Hession back in July 2007, had long been one of the more stubborn entries in the Irish sprinting record books. It survived multiple generations of athletes, but on this occasion, it gave way.
And it did not just fall, it was nudged aside by an athlete who looks to be only getting started.
For Irish sprinting, it marks a significant moment. Records like this do not go lightly, and when they do, it often signals a shift in the landscape.
For Aigboboh, it feels like the next step rather than the final destination.
Below, you can catch the race and relive every second of this historic run.
