WATCH: Sharlene Mawdsley Destroys PB And Meeting Record To Win In Savona

Sharlene Mawdsley stormed to victory in the women’s 400 metres at the Meeting Città di Savona in Italy.
Competing at the Complesso Polisportivo Giulio Ottolia in Savona, the Newport AC athlete opened her individual outdoor campaign in emphatic fashion, clocking a superb 50.52 to take the win and set a new meeting record in the process.
The performance was made even more impressive by the fact that the time also marked a brand new personal best for Mawdsley, shaving 0.19 seconds off her previous best of 50.71, which she recorded at the Paris Olympic Games in 2024.
Mawdsley finished almost a full second clear of American athlete Talitha Diggs, who placed 2nd in 51.47, underlining just how strong the Irishwoman looked in her season opener.
Savona has become something of a happy hunting ground for Mawdsley in recent years. She won the same meeting back in 2024 before returning last year to finish 2nd, and she now makes it two victories from three appearances at the Italian meet.
