Irish athletes have put on impressive performances today at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, bringing home medals and advancing in their respective events.

Geraldine Finegan has added another medal to her collection, securing a bronze in the Pole Vault with an outstanding jump of 2.40 metres. This achievement comes after her earlier success in the Championships, where she also earned a bronze medal in the Heptathlon. Finegan’s consistency and quality across multiple disciplines have marked her as one of the standout Irish athletes in Gothenburg. She will next compete in the 80m hurdles heats, where she hopes to continue her strong form.

John MacDermott continued his strong run at the Championships, winning his heat in the 400m with a time of 1:12.64. His performance has secured him a place in the final, where he will be looking to challenge for a medal. MacDermott’s success in this Championships continues and he is looking for even more to add to his World Record achievement in the 200m hurdles earlier in the Championships.

As the Championships progress, Irish athletes like Finegan and MacDermott are continuously showing that they are more than capable of competing on the world stage, bringing pride and recognition to the country.
