Neville & Akinola Lead Irish Charge Across Europe This Evening

Irish athletes are in action across four meetings in continental Europe this evening, with qualification marks, personal bests and international victories all on the agenda in Spain, Austria, Finland and Germany.
The evening begins in Spain, where Anna Gavigan competes in the discus at the Memorial José Antonio Cansino in Castellón. Gavigan has enjoyed a consistent outdoor campaign, producing a personal best while finishing second in Italy at the beginning of June before securing the Northern Ireland and Ulster senior title in Belfast two weeks ago.
Attention then switches to the Austrian Open in Eisenstadt, where Molly Scott and Ciara Neville contest the women's 100m. Scott makes her outdoor season debut after her only appearance of 2026 came in Ireland's unfortunate 4x100m relay disqualification at the World Relays. Neville, meanwhile, has enjoyed an encouraging season, lowering her personal best twice and achieving the European Championships B standard on both occasions. Another fast run this evening would move her a step closer to the automatic qualifying mark.
In Finland, former Irish Under 23 800m champion Nathan Cremin returns to racing in Europe following an impressive collegiate season in the United States. Drawn in the A race, the Emerald AC athlete looks well placed to challenge for a podium finish.
The final stop of the evening is Germany for the Internationales Sparkassenmeeting Freiburg. While the meeting will not be streamed, it features several Irish athletes, including Bori Akinola, who continues his pursuit of the European Championships qualifying standard. The Irish international produced a personal best at the Stratford Track Grand Prix in May and will hope favourable conditions can help him move another step towards the automatic mark.
There are also several other Irish athletes competing in Freiburg, with the full timetable, Irish start times and streaming information, where available, listed below.
