Streets of Thurles 5K: One of Ireland's Fastest 5Ks Returns After a One Year Absence

​The Streets of Thurles 5k, hosted by Thurles Crokes AC, is returning to the town after a 1 year absence. The race brings competitors and supporters from all across Munster, bordering counties and beyond.

It’s an ideal benchmark run if you’ve recently completed a Couch to 5K training programme such as our own over the last few weeks, if you're gearing up for a half marathon or an autumn marathon, but equally exciting if you just want to soak up the atmosphere and run a rare race through Thurles town. How often does a race happen in the town?

If you love a smooth and flat route, this course delivers an ideal opportunity to smash your 5K PB. It's surely one of the flattest courses around.

The course starts at the top of Jimmy Doyle Road for a nice 500m downhill start, onto Brittas Road, looping around CBS Secondary School, through Castle Avenue, then into Friar Street, through Liberty Square, down Mitchell Street, looping around Boheravaroon Road, down Kickham Street aiming towards town and a fast finish into St Patrick's Campus.

Because the route runs through the heart of the town, friends, family, and local supporters will line the streets to keep your momentum high from start to finish.
