The Kilworth Woods IMRA Munster trail race, held on Sunday, August 25th, was a fantastic event that brought together trail runners for an exciting day in the woods. Seventy-four runners gathered in Kilworth Woods, basking in the warm autumn sunshine that perfectly complemented the atmosphere.

The long course, measuring 6.5km with a challenging 150 metres of elevation, saw some impressive performances. In the women's category, Lisa Hegarty was the standout, finishing 3rd overall with a time of 30 minutes and 17 seconds. She was followed by Suzanne Shine and Mary Louise Ryan, who both put in strong efforts to complete the podium. On the men's side, JP Treacy took the top spot, crossing the finish line in 29 minutes and 41 seconds, with Gerard Maloney and Gerard Hanley taking 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

The short course also featured some great performances, with Ciara Meldrum claiming victory, followed by David Collins and Kitty O'Dwyer.

Race directors William O'Donoghue and Lynda Hynes, along with a dedicated team of volunteers, ensured the event ran smoothly, capping off the race with delicious refreshments for all participants. The race also welcomed several first-timers to the trails and a group from Sanctuary Runners, adding to the inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that is synonymous with IMRA events.

The next race in the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League is set for Wednesday, August 28th, in Currabinny Woods, with a start time of 7:00pm. It promises to be another exciting event for trail running enthusiasts. Stay tuned to Run Republic for a preview of that one!
