This Sunday, September 1st, the Irish Mountain Running Association (IMRA) Munster Championship comes to its conclusion with the highly anticipated Knockmealdowns race. Covering a challenging 7.6 kilometres, the course demands the utmost from participants, boasting an impressive elevation gain of just under 900 metres.

The Knockmealdowns race is the final event in a thrilling series that has tested the endurance and skill of mountain runners across some of Munster's most iconic peaks. The Championship kicked off in May with the Tomies / Purple Mountain race, followed by a series of gruelling and challenging events on Slievenamon, Moylussa, Carrauntoohill, and Galtymore. Each race has added layers of excitement, leading up to this Sunday's finale.

As we approach the final race, all eyes are on the current leaders of the Championship: Mary Louise Ryan and Sean Quirke. Both have put on exceptional performances throughout the series, and the Knockmealdowns will be their last challenge before the winners are officially crowned.

Robert Cunningham, the Race Director for this final event, has ensured that the course will test the mettle of every participant. With the Championship on the line, the Knockmealdowns race promises to deliver a fittingly dramatic conclusion to what has been a remarkable season of mountain running.
