The Beara AC Autumn 5 Mile Series kicks off in style with the Glengarriff 5 Mile this coming Saturday, the 6th of September 2025 at 4:30pm. Set in the heart of West Cork, this race combines coastal charm with woodland trails, making it a unique start to the four-race series that also visits Allihies, Bere Island, and Eyeries.

Entries are still open and it is a steal at €20, you can enter through the link here

A Scenic & Varied Route

The race begins in the village of Glengarriff before winding into the Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve, one of the jewels of West Cork. Runners will take on a mix of tarmac, public roads, and gravel woodland trails, with the final mile bringing them back onto smooth road surfaces to finish in the village.

The course overlaps with the weekly parkrun route inside the Nature Reserve, a nod to the area’s strong running culture. With undulating terrain, stretches of woodland shade, and the open roads of Beara, it’s a proper test but one that rewards you with stunning scenery at every turn.

Part of the Beara AC Autumn Series

The Glengarriff 5 Mile first joined the Beara AC series in 2021, strengthening the block of four races that now define autumn running in the region. Each race is spaced three weeks apart, giving runners the perfect chance to recover, regroup, and return for the next challenge.

Proceeds from the series go directly to Glengarriff and Derrycreha National Schools, so every step supports the local community as well as the sport itself.

Community Spirit Meets Tough Terrain

Organised by runners, for runners, the Glengarriff 5 Mile has quickly earned its reputation as a race with a warm local touch. Numbers have grown steadily over the last five years, and it’s now firmly established as a marker race for the start of the autumn season. Whether you’re chasing a time or just out for the atmosphere, this is a course that leaves an impression.
