The Enniscorthy 10K: This Weekend's Wholesome Club Race in the South East

At a time when race calendars are packed with big money spinning commerical events, it’s often the club races that quietly remind us what running is really about. The Enniscorthy 10K, hosted by Slaney Olympic AC and sponsored by Campion Insurance, is one of those events.
Now heading into its 19th year, this a 10K built on the back of hard working volunteers, community and a club that genuinely cares about the experience runners have on the day.
Course Overview
The route is a two-lapper, which might split opinion at first glance. But there’s a big positive: once you’ve completed the first lap, you know exactly what’s coming. That makes pacing smarter and the second half more manageable. It’s not being sold as an “easy” course, runners describe it as fair and that’s often where the best racing happens.
There’s a gentle elevation gain across the 10K, enough to keep things interesting without turning it into a slog.
Friendly Atmosphere & Prize Fund
This is very much a race that welcomes a mix. Club runners, first-timers stepping up to 10K, and those with one eye on prizes will all find their place here.
There’s a generous prize structure, with awards for top finishers, age categories and teams, plus a bonus for anyone brave enough (and fast enough) to take a shot at the course record. That blend of competition and inclusivity is classic club-race territory, serious up front, supportive all the way through the field.
Stress-free Logistics
Accessibility is another big plus. Enniscorthy is an easy run down the road from Dublin and neighbouring counties, and parking is close to the start, with local businesses stepping in to help. That kind of local backing makes a difference, fewer headaches before the gun goes.
Entries tend to surge in the final week, with numbers expected to push past 200. It has that familiar feel of a race that people come back to year after year.
Medals, Bananas & Post Race Craic
Post-race, things are being kept simple, and that’s no bad thing. All finishers will receive a custom medal this year (a first for the event), and there’ll be the usual runner fuel of bars, bananas and water waiting at the finish.
But the real story is behind the scenes. This race is powered by club members giving up their time, working together to get everything ready. Orla spoke proudly about the effort that goes in long before race morning, and in particular about race director Jennifer Frisby, who despite being in her early 20s is leading much of the organisation and pulling people together.
That’s what you’re supporting when you pin on a number at a race like this.
Give it a Go this Weekend
Big events have their place, but club races like the Enniscorthy 10K keep the local running scene alive. Clubs supporting each other, volunteers out on corners, familiar faces at the finish line, it’s a different atmosphere, and one many runners forget they’ve been missing.
If you’re looking for a well-run 10K with heart, not just hype, this one deserves a spot in your calendar.
