Tragic Loss At Cork City Marathon As Female Runner Passes Away

The Cork City Marathon was overshadowed by tragedy today as a female runner in her 20's passed away during the event.
The young woman, a participant in the half-marathon, is understood to have suffered a medical emergency near the finish line on Patrick Street.
Cork City Council, the organizers of the marathon, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement:
"Cork City Council is deeply saddened to confirm that a participant in the Cork City Marathon has tragically passed away. The person was attended to immediately by the emergency services on the scene. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased."
The Cork City Marathon, now in its 24th year, drew over 11,000 participants from 26 countries, with runners competing in the full marathon, half-marathon, and 10k events.
