Team Ireland has named a strong athletics contingent for the 2025 FISU Summer World University Games, set to take place in Germany from July 16th to 27th.

The nine athletes selected will compete in the track and field events, which will be staged at the Lohrheidestadion in Bochum, one of the key venues in the Rhine-Ruhr region. Athletics once again proves to be a leading light for Ireland, with these nine athletes making up more than a third of the entire Irish delegation of 22 athletes across all sports.

Here’s the full Irish athletics line-up:

🏃‍♀️ Ava O’Connor – Adams State University
🏃‍♂️ Jack Raftery – Dublin City University
🏃‍♀️ Kate O’Connor – Ulster University
🏃‍♀️ Laura Nicholson – University of Toledo
🏃‍♀️ Lauren Roy – Tarleton State University
🔩 Nicola Tuthill – University College Dublin
🚶‍♂️ Oisín Lane – University of Limerick
🏃‍♀️ Sophie O’Sullivan – University of Washington
🏃‍♂️ Toluwabori Akinola – University College Dublin

Ireland’s representatives will bring a serious mix of experience and talent next week. With many already having competed at international level, this promises to be another exciting outing for Irish university sport on the global stage.
