Irish Duo in Action as Athletics Begins at World University Games: Start Times & How to Watch

The athletics programme at the 2025 FISU World University Games gets underway today in Rhein-Ruhr, Germany, with two Irish athletes set to open proceedings for the team. Sprinter Bori Akinola and quarter-miler Jack Raftery will be the first in action on what marks the start of a busy schedule for the Irish contingent. Around nine athletes are expected to represent Ireland across the athletics events over the coming days.
The World University Games, held every two years, bring together some of the best student-athletes from around the globe, offering a high level of competition just below the senior international stage. Today, Akinola lines out in the heats of the men’s 100m, while Raftery will take on the first round of the men’s 400m. Full start times, live streaming and results links can be found below:
