Mark English and Darragh McElhinney are on the starting lists at the Gyulai István Memorial in Budapest tonight, with English lining up in the 800m and McElhinney taking on the 3000m.
English’s 2025 season has been fantastic so far. He’s twice broken his own Irish 800m record, smashed his way into the sub-1:44 club, and claimed his tenth national title over the distance. He remains the undisputed master of men's the two-lap event in Ireland and will be looking to test himself once more tonight Hungary with the World Champs in Tokyo starting to come into the horizon.
McElhinney arrives in cracking form too. Only on Saturday, the Cork man climbed to second on the Irish all-time list with a blistering run of 13:02.06 over 5000m in Belgium, and he’ll be eager to back that up on the Budapest track, going down to the 3000m.
