NCAA Outdoor Season Rolls On With Irish Wins And Personal Bests

The NCAA outdoor season kept up its early momentum over the weekend, with Irish athletes spread across multiple high profile meets in the United States. From relay podium finishes at the Texas Relays to personal bests and strong distance performances on the West Coast, it was another busy few days of racing.\

Texas Relays Deliver Strong Relay Performances

One of the headline meets of the weekend, the Texas Relays, saw a heavy Irish presence across several relay events.

Representing the University of Texas, Conor Kelly played a key role in two strong team performances. He helped Texas qualify for the 4x400m final before finishing fourth overall in 3:07.13. Kelly was back in action in the Distance Medley Relay, where Texas again placed fourth, clocking 9:46.78.

At the University of Houston, Seán Aigboboh was also heavily involved in relay action. Houston finished second in the 4x100m relay in 40.68, before going one better in the 4x200m, where they secured victory in 1:22.48.

Susie Nestor, representing Rice University, contributed to a third place finish in the 4x800m relay, with the team running 8:51.81.

Elsewhere, Kate Doherty, now competing with the Buford Bailey Track Club and formerly of Dundrum South Dublin AC, placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 59.20.

Fahy Hits Personal Best At High Point

At the High Point VertKlasse Meeting, Killian Fahy of the University of North Carolina delivered one of the standout individual performances of the weekend.

The Cork athlete stormed to victory in the 400m, clocking a personal best of 46.16 to take first place.

Stanford Invitational Hosts Distance Depth

The Stanford Invitational once again proved a key destination for distance racing, with several Irish athletes in action.

Representing the University of Portland, Mark Milner ran 3:40.72 to finish ninth in the 1500m. In the women’s race, Bradley University’s Eimear McCarroll placed twelfth in 4:29.08.

Over 5000m, Oisín Ó Gailín of Finn Valley AC produced a strong run of 13:48.41 to take eleventh place.

Florida Relays See PB Progression

At the Pepsi Florida Relays, Nicole Dinan of Florida State showed encouraging early season form across two events.

She ran 2:08.72 in the 800m before stepping up in distance to record a personal best of 4:16.06 in the 1500m, finishing eighth overall.

Lucy-May Sleeman, also representing Florida State, finished eleventh in the 100m in 11.43.

Hannah Segrave, competing for Atlanta Track Club Elite, placed eighth in the 800m with a time of 2:07.07.

Field Events And Sprints At UNLV

At the UNLV Rebel Elite meet, Andrew Cooper of Southern Utah University competed across two field events.

He placed eleventh in the hammer throw with a best effort of 48.92m, before finishing twelfth in the shot put with a throw of 14.30m.

UConn Meet Rounds Out The Weekend

The UConn Dog Fight saw a smaller Irish contingent in action.

Diarmuid O’Connor of the University of Connecticut ran 49.20 in the 400m to place 28th.

Emmy Thornton of Dartmouth College competed twice, finishing eleventh in the 800m in 2:18.01. She later returned to help her team to eighth place in the 4x400m relay, clocking 4:06.26.

With relay medals, personal bests, and solid early season marks across a wide range of events, Irish athletes continue to build momentum as the NCAA outdoor season begins to take shape.
