Penn And Drake Headline Another Packed Week For Irish NCAA Athletes In The U.S.

The U.S. collegiate outdoor season rolls straight on into another packed week, with Irish athletes spread across some of the biggest meets on the calendar alongside a busy slate of conference championship action.

From the high-profile relay carnivals to championship racing with medals on the line, there’s no shortage of opportunities for Irish athletes to make an impact.

Drake Relays

Drake Stadium | Wednesday April 22nd – Saturday April 25th

The Drake Relays is one of the standout meets of the U.S. outdoor season, and there’s a solid Irish presence across middle distance and combined events.

Competing for Adams State University, Ava O’Connor takes on the women’s 3000m steeplechase, while Ashleigh McArdle, in action for DePaul University, lines up in the heptathlon.

Bradley University’s Eimear McCarroll doubles up here, contesting both the 1500m and the Distance Medley Relay across the weekend.

Penn Relay Carnival

Franklin Field | Thursday April 23rd – Saturday April 25th

One of the most iconic meets in global athletics, the Penn Relays brings together a huge Irish contingent across a wide range of events.

Hannah Segrave steps into the 800m, while Providence College is heavily represented, with Cara Laverty and Gemma Galvin are both in action across the 1500m, Distance Medley Relay, and 4x800m Relay. Joining them, Jane Buckley lines up in the 5000m, with Maeve O’Neill contributing to relay duties.

Nicole Dinan, competing for Florida State University, doubles up in the 1500m, while Boston College’s Claire Crowley and Dartmouth College’s Emmy Thornton are both set for Distance Medley Relay action.

On the men’s side, Villanova University’s Charlie O’Donovan takes on the mile, with teammate Seán Donoghue lining up in both the Distance Medley Relay and 4x800m Relay. Jack Fenlon, also of Villanova, is entered in the 1500m.

Elsewhere, University of Houston’s Sean Aigboboh is set for sprint duties in the 100m and 4x200m relay, while Iona University’s Scott Fagan tackles the 5000m.

Killian Fahy, representing the University of North Carolina, is part of the Distance Medley Relay setup, with David Davitt of the University of Pennsylvania lining up in the 4x400m relay. Grace Weigele of Stony Brook University is also in action over 5000m.

Clyde Hart Track & Field Stadium | Friday April 24th – Saturday April 25th

Speed takes centre stage in Texas, with Tarleton State University’s Lauren Roy competing across the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m relay.

Meanwhile, Kate Doherty of Dundrum South Dublin AC steps into the 400m hurdles, adding another Irish presence to a competitive sprint programme.

Auburn University Track Complex | Saturday April 25th

Field event action features here, with Bandon AC's Shane Howard entered in the men’s long jump, though his collegiate affiliation remains unconfirmed.

Holloway Field | Saturday April 25th

Rice University’s Susie Nestor takes on a middle-distance double, lining up in both the 800m and 1500m on home track.

Joining her in Texas, Victoria Amiadamen, representing Texas State University, competes in the 400m hurdles.

At LSU, University of Louisiana Lafayette’s Nelvin Appiah competes in the men’s 400m hurdles, continuing his outdoor campaign.

Montreat College once again features prominently, with Heather Murphy doubling up in the 5000m and 10000m, while also contributing to the 4x800m relay.

Nathan Cremin mirrors that busy schedule on the men’s side, lining up in the 800m, 1500m, and 4x400m relay as championship racing intensifies.

With major relay carnivals, conference titles on the line, and athletes competing right across the country, this week offers another strong snapshot of Irish talent embedded throughout the U.S. collegiate system.
