TOKYO RACE UPDATE
Oisin Lane finished 28th in the men's 35km in very hot and humid conditions in Tokyo. 45 athletes started the competition at 7.30am Tokyo time with the two Japanese athletes maintaining their presence in the leading pack. The Mullingar Harriers athlete raced conservatively over the initial stages, mindful of both the distance and the intense weather conditions. Oscillating between the 28th to 32nd position, he eventually settled at 28th for the final 3km. He was however chasing down Max Dos Santos (Brazil) who raced at the World Athletics Racewalking Tour in Dublin last December. Just as he did in Dublin, Dos Santos managed to remain one place ahead of Lane. The winner was Evan Dunfee (Canada) with Ciao Bonfin (Brazil) in second and Hayato Katsuki (Japan) finished third to the roaring applause of the delighted home audience. Incidentally Bonfin also raced in Dublin last December and finished second.
