World University Games Day 5: Full Irish Schedule, Start Times & Where to Watch

Day Five at the World University Games gets underway following an historic day for Irish athletics.
Yesterday, Kate O’Connor delivered one of the standout performances of the Games, winning gold in the heptathlon, Ireland’s first World University Games title since Thomas Barr’s 400m hurdles win in 2015. Even more impressively, she smashed the Irish heptathlon national record, capping off a phenomenal season that already includes a World Indoor silver and Euro bronze medal.
With the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo fast approaching, O’Connor is currently in Olympic qualification contention through world rankings, having met the B standard, meaning every performance counts in her push for a spot in Japan.
Today, attention turns to two Irish women on the track.
- Laura Nicholson (University of Toledo/Bandon AC) takes on the 1500m heats.
- Ava O’Connor (Adams State University/Tullamore Harriers) competes in the 3000m steeplechase. Last month she set a new U23 Irish record and competed at the European U23 Championships last weekend.
