Ferrybank Athletic Club enjoyed a fantastic weekend of competition at the Munster U9–U13 Championships, held at the RSC in Waterford. With over 60 young athletes representing the club across the two days, the event was a memorable one for all involved.
Despite at times challenging weather conditions, Furrybank’s young stars rose to the occasion, gaining valuable experience against a strong field of over 1,000 athletes from across the province. Making a final at this level is no small feat, and securing a medal is an achievement to be proud of.
The club saw a host of standout performances across both days, with many athletes securing podium finishes and team successes.
Day 1 Highlights:
The opening day saw Ferrybank AC competitors rise to the occasion, gaining invaluable experience and demonstrating their burgeoning athletic prowess. Several athletes stood on the podium, bringing home a collection of medals.
- Rhys Evans claimed gold in the U13 Boys 80m, displaying exceptional speed.
- Ciaran Scollard had a busy and successful day in the U13 Boys category, securing a silver medal in the high jump and a bronze in the long jump.
- The U9 Girls Pairs team of Aisling Lynch and Sophie O'Byrne earned a silver medal in the 300m.
- In the U10 Girls long jump, Frankie Flynn jumped to a silver medal.
- Ferrybank AC's strength in relays was evident with the U9 Girls relay team securing a silver, and the U11 Girls relay team also bringing home a silver medal.
Day 2 Continues Medal Haul:
Day two at the RSC saw Ferrybank AC's large contingent continue their superb performance, with every athlete giving their best and contributing to the exciting atmosphere of the championships. The club added significantly to their medal tally.
- The U10 Boys 500m Pairs team of Adam Purcell and Conor Lambe earned a silver medal.
- In the U11 Boys 600m, Luke Nevin secured a silver medal, while teammate Conor Keane clinched the bronze. The formidable pair then combined to take gold in the U11 Boys 600m Pairs.
- Eve Nolan delivered a fantastic performance to win gold in the U12 Girls 600m.
- Louis Smith showcased his strength, taking first place in the U13 Boys Shot Put.
- The U11 Boys Long Jump Pairs team of Luke Nevin and Eamonn Scollard secured a bronze medal.
- The relay teams once again proved their mettle, with the U9 Boys relay team earning a bronze, while both the U11 Boys and U13 Boys relay teams powered to impressive gold medal victories.
