Nick Griggs Continues Rapid Rise With Step Up To World Indoors

Nick Griggs arrives at the World Indoor Championships in Toruń with strong momentum behind him after an outstanding run of form across the winter.
His 2025 season ended in spectacular fashion at the European Cross Country Championships in December, where he stormed to victory in the U23 race. The Tyrone runner not only claimed individual gold but also helped guide Ireland to team gold, capping another major chapter in an already decorated young career.
Griggs has carried that confidence straight into the new year. He produced another standout performance to win the Armagh International Road Race, one of the fastest and most competitive 5km events on the Irish calendar, before confirming his indoor form at the Irish Indoor Championships just under two weeks ago with a commanding run to secure the national 3000 metres title.
Still only 21 years of age, it can be easy to forget just how young Griggs remains. Since bursting onto the scene as a teenager, he has spent several years collecting medals and records at under 20 and under 23 level. He claimed the European U20 3000 metres title on the track in 2021 and has reached the podium multiple times at European cross country championships across the junior and U23 ranks. Across indoor and outdoor competition he has already amassed 13 national records at U20 and U23 level.
Toruń now represents a very different challenge. Moving from dominating age group competitions to racing at the World Indoor Championships against the best senior athletes on the planet is a major step up in class. For Griggs, however, the opportunity to gain experience at this level could prove invaluable as he continues his steady progression towards the full senior ranks.
