Provisional Irish Team Announced for 2026 European Athletics Championships

Athletics Ireland has unveiled its provisional team for the 2026 European Athletics Championships, with many of Ireland's biggest names set to compete in Birmingham from 10th to 16th August. The squad is headlined by reigning world heptathlon silver medallist Kate O'Connor, European indoor champion Sarah Healy, European 800m medallist Mark English, and sprint stars Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley, as Ireland prepares to send one of its strongest teams in recent years.

The initial announcement confirms athletes who have achieved the Athletics Ireland 'A' standard, along with the relay panels that have already secured qualification. A further group of athletes who have achieved the 'B' standard have also been named provisionally and will be officially confirmed if they receive a quota place when European Athletics publishes the final Road to Birmingham rankings on 30th July.
