The 71st edition of the Cork City Sports takes place tonight at the Munster Technological University Track, with a string of Ireland’s best-known athletes lining up in front of a home crowd. The World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meet is once again a chance for Irish stars to test themselves on Irish soil and the start lists are stacked.
Among the many elite level names competing, here are a few Irish internationals and Olympians athletes to keep an eye on:
Israel Olatunde – Ireland’s fastest man returns to home turf for the first time since the indoor nationals in February. He'll be eager to deliver in front of the home crowd.
Phil Healy – A regular at this meet, Cork native Healy is on the start lists for both the 100m and 200m. The Tokyo Olympian is always a crowd favourite.
Nicola Tuthill – The second Cork star in action, the 21 year old Paris hammer throw Olympian has already broken the U23 National Record this season, can she do it again on home soil?
Nick Griggs – Just 20 years old, but already a star. The Euro U23 XC silver medalist takes on the 3000m this evening. The Tyrone man has already has had a flying return from a freak illness, with victory in the Irish U23 800m just four days ago.
Cathal Doyle – The Dublin miler has been in flying form this season, having qualified for this year's Tokyo Worlds (1500m) in the Diamond League in June. Doyle will be hunting a quick clocking in the 800m.
Eric Favors – The Irish shot put record holder and Paris 2024 Olympian is back in action. He’s already picked up a meet win in Canada this season and will be out to land something big on home turf.
