Double Gold for Danny at National Masters

Congrats to Danny Meaney who took home two National Gold Medals at the All Ireland Masters Track & Field Championships held in Tullamore last Weekend Coming 1st in the O/45 Category in the Long Jump in 5.23m and 1st O/45 in the Men's Triple jump in 10.00m Great stuff Well done Danny. Conor Keating also represented the club In the Mens Masters 5,000m running well with a 4th place finish in the O/35 cat in a time of 16:45. Well done Conor.Road Running Results: The County road championships may have come to an end for 2024 but there are plenty of road races ongoing up and down the country, here are some recent results to look at. Last Thursday August 1st at the Clogheen Festival 5k which attracted a good turnout of 210 participants, first home for the club was Paul Bowe running well in 12th place in 19mins & 56 seconds, next saw a good battle to the finish from William Bowe 42nd place in 22:00 and Liam Meaney making his debut for the club in 43rd place in 22:01, Littleton native Mandy Fennessy also ran well in 85th place overall in 24:42 & 1st woman O/35. On Sunday August 4th Liam Meaney was back in action again Running the Borrisokane 5k running well here in 6th place overall in 25:12. Well done to All. Photos of Clogheen 5k thanks to Cahir media.

Olympic Connections Part 3

In the third part of our Olympic ties within the club, We remember Tomás Coman's achievement when he represented Ireland in the Men's 400m at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. He was also on the Men's 4x4 Relay team. In the 400m event Tomás finished in 5th place in his heat just missing out on the 3rd place automatic spot for the semi-final. He was National 400m Champion 4 times in his Senior career Winning in 2000, 2001,2004, & 2005 and a former National record holder for the distance too with a PB time of 45.84 Internationally he represented his country 6 times before retiring due to recurring achilles & calf injuries.

Sympathies

The club sends it condolences to the family and friends of Chris Harrington Leevale AC,Cork who was a respected athlete and coach in the Munster region who passed away unexpectedly last week. We also pay our respects to Antóin Ó Briain who will be a big loss to the Thurles community and surrounding areas. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha dílse.

Upcoming Fixtures

The Streets of Thurles 5k will take place on Thursday, August 15th @ 8pm A unique opportunity to run down the main streets of Thurles which will be closed off to traffic for the duration of the race, Online entry still open or enter on the day at the MIC Campus across from the Cathedral.
