Wexford Bus Piercestown 5K Returns This June

Not every race needs a city centre start line, giant expo or thousands of runners to be worth your time.
Sometimes all you need is a well organised course, a few hundred runners, plenty of local support and a decent spread waiting at the finish.
That is exactly what runners can expect from the Wexford Bus Piercestown 5K, which returns on Sunday June 21st at 12pm.
Organised as a fundraiser for Piercestown National School, the race has quietly established itself as one of the most enjoyable community events on the local calendar. With organisers targeting a field of 500 participants, it promises a lively atmosphere without losing the friendly character that makes smaller races so appealing.
A Quick Course With A Sting In The Tail
If you're looking for a summer 5K with the potential for a strong performance, the Wexford Bus Piercestown 5K is well worth considering.
The course is largely flat and runnable through the opening miles, with only gentle undulations along the way. For much of the race, runners can settle into a rhythm and enjoy the quiet country roads around Piercestown.
The real challenge comes in the closing stages. After a relatively forgiving opening four kilometres, the route rises noticeably on the run back towards Piercestown National School, providing a final test of strength before the finish line.
That uphill finish means this is not quite a pancake flat PB course, but it remains an accessible route for runners of all abilities and should still produce plenty of fast times on race day.
For those less concerned with the stopwatch, the profile offers a nice balance between speed and challenge, with enough variation to keep things interesting without becoming overly demanding.

The Piercestown 5K remains relatively gentle for much of the route before a testing uphill finish over the closing stages.
A Unique Community Spirit At Its Best
What really sets the Piercestown 5K apart is the local involvement.
As a fundraiser for Piercestown National School, the race has strong backing from pupils, parents, staff and the wider community. Expect plenty of support along the route and a warm welcome from the moment you arrive.
There is something special about races organised by local schools and community groups. The atmosphere tends to be relaxed, welcoming and genuine, with volunteers who are there because they care about the event rather than because they have been asked to fill a shift.
For first time racers, it provides a particularly friendly introduction to organised running. For seasoned runners, it offers a reminder of the grassroots events that form the backbone of the sport.
Fantastic Entry Fee Value
Entry fees have been kept refreshingly affordable at €15 for adults and €10 for under 18s, and bear in mind that includes a finisher's medal.
Parking is available close to the start area, helping to remove some of the usual race morning stress for those travelling from elsewhere in Wexford and beyond.
Did We Mention Free Donuts?
The finish line experience is another reason why this event continues to attract runners.
Every participant will receive a finisher's medal, while Kelly's Bakery will once again be providing complimentary doughnuts for all finishers. Clovelly will also be on site, giving runners the chance to refuel and catch up after crossing the line.
Let's be honest, a free doughnut after a hard effort has convinced many runners to sign up for far less.
There are also cash prizes on offer, with €100 awarded to the first male and first female finishers. A special Father's Day prize will also go to the first dad across the finish line, adding an extra bit of fun competition to proceedings.
Whynot Give It A Go?
The Wexford Bus Piercestown 5K strikes an appealing balance. It offers a genuinely quick course for those chasing a PB, while retaining the welcoming atmosphere that makes community races so enjoyable.
With local support, post race refreshments, finisher medals and a good cause at its heart, it has all the ingredients of a successful summer race.
If you're looking for a fast 5K, a family friendly event or simply an excuse to earn a doughnut on a Saturday afternoon, Piercestown could be well worth the trip.
