Drogheda & District AC host their annual Christmas 5k this Sunday, December 17th.
This race is ‘the last major road race in the North East before Christmas’ and is ideal for people looking to squeeze one last fast race in before the Christmas period truly kicks into gear next week. It may also encourage people to pick running up in the New Year with the great atmosphere that is created year after year at the event.
We spoke to the organisers, Drogheda & District AC, and asked them why people should sign up to take part in this race, ‘The course is pretty much flat and ideal for a PB, starting and finishing on the track of the Lourdes Stadium. The course runs out of the stadium heading north on the Ballymakenny road in the direction of Listoke House, making a 180 degree turn on the road and coming back for a cheering fast finish on the track.
‘The race has always encouraged fancy dress to make it as festive a day as possible. It attracts several hundred runners with more every year due to its popularity, and this year has been our highest to date.
‘We always encourage families to do this one and make it more inclusive for kids. There’s a Santa Dash run on the track for children also.
‘Last Lap Cafe year after year have supported us with free tea, coffee, and hot chocolate for all competitors as well as a generous spread of food organised by our club members.'
