Craig Woods Hosts the Seventh Race of the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League

July 19, 2024

This coming Sunday, July 21st, trail and mountain runners from across Munster will gather for the much-anticipated seventh race in the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League. Kicking off at the beginning of May, this 12-race series has seen an impressive number of runners tackling diverse and challenging courses across the region. Now, the league brings its excitement to Craig Woods.

The main race will cover a scenic and demanding 9.5km course, featuring an elevation gain of 270 metres. Participants can look forward to a variety of terrains and beautiful views. The race is set to begin at 11am, promising a thrilling morning for all runners.

Damien McDonnell, serving as the Race Director for this event, has ensured that the course is well-prepared and safe, offering an invigorating challenge to all runners.

In addition to the main race, the event will also feature a kids' race and a shorter course for those looking for another option:

  • Kids' Race: Starting at 10:15am, the young participants will run a 1km loop, beginning and ending within the woods. This race is a fantastic opportunity for children to experience the joy of trail running in a supportive and fun environment.
  • Short Course: Commencing at 10:30 am, this 4km course provides a more accessible challenge for runners who prefer a shorter distance. The race will start and finish at the phone box in the village, allowing participants to enjoy a brisk run through the local scenery.

The IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League has been a celebration of community spirit as well as competitive spirit. Each race offers a chance for runners to test their limits, enjoy the natural beauty of Munster, and connect with fellow enthusiasts.

As the league progresses past its halfway mark, the competition is heating up, and Craig Woods promises to be a pivotal race in the series. Runners are encouraged to arrive early to get their warm ups in, ensuring they are ready to tackle the challenging course.
