COUNTY JUNIOR & SENIOR ROAD CHAMPIONSHIP
A HISTORIC DAY IN OUR CLUB AS BOTH MEN & WOMEN TEAMS CROWNED DOUBLE SENIOR ROAD CHAMPIONS
The county Junior & Senior Road championships were held on Sunday 7th April and hosted by Templemore AC. It was a windy wet morning with bursts of sunshine in places. The women raced 5k and the men 10k. We had 6 women race. First home for the club and a clear winner taking the Gold was Dymphna Ryan, in a fantastic time of 17.23, Dymphna is the reigning champion since 2019 (no race in 2020 due to covid) she was followed on by 4th Linda Grogan, 18.58, 8th Catherine Fogarty 20.10, 10th Mary Keane 20.27, 12th Karen Coughlan 21.42 and 15th Mairead Julian 20.20. Dymphna, Linda & Catherine were crowned Senior Road Champions, winning the senior A team cup event for the very 1st time. Mary, Karen & Mairead won Gold in the B section.
In the men's race we had 10 men run. First home from the club was 6th Barry Hartnett 35.23, followed on by 7th Eamon Morrissey 36.10, 8th Philly O Dwyer 36.15, 10th John Ryan 37.20, 12th Gerry O Neill 38.11, 15th Martin Keane 38.41, 23rd Ruaidhri Devitt 41.35, 26th Jim Halley 42.52, 27th Michael Ryan 43.43 and Tommy Byrnes 44.06. Barry, Eamon, Philly & John made up the A team and won the Senior Championship Cup. The men have done the hat trick this year winning The Novice, Intermediate & Senior team event. Our second team of Gerry, Martin, Ruaidhri & Jim won Gold in the B section and our third team of Michael & Tommy won Silver.
A very proud and historic day for our club with both our teams winning the Senior Championship cups, the very 1st one for our women's team. Dymphna winning individual Gold in the women's race, Both Women's & Men's Gold in section B and silver men's. Well done to all, superb performances all round.
