COUNTY MASTERS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP

The County Masters Cross Country Championship was held in Fethard on Sunday 22nd January. We would like to thank the Rice Family and Fethard A/C for hosting and providing a New Cross country course and for the fantastic hospitality they provided. It was a wet and very windy day with a lot of headwinds, these were very tough running conditions for athletes as it was muddy underfoot also. 

We had 18 athletes compete. In the women's 4k race we had 8 women. First home for the club and overall winner of the race was Dymphna Ryan (1st O/40). She was followed by Linda Grogan (2nd O/40) and finishing on the podium in 2nd place. Next was Catherine Fogarty in 5th place and 1st in O/45. 11th Karen Coughlan 7th O/40.15th Mary Keane and 2nd place in O/35. 18th Emily Leahy, 11 O/40. 19th Mairead Julian and 3rd in the O/45 and 25th Denise Compton, who was 1st in the O/55 category. 

Dymphna, Linda & Karen secured Gold in the O/35 category, while in the 0/45 team Catherine, Mairead & Denise won Silver. In the Men's 7k race we had 8 compete. First home for the club and making a well-deserved debut on the podium was Barry Hartnett, 1s O/40.he was followed by Martin Keane 3rd O/40. 17th Jim Halley,4th O/55. 19th John Ryan 4th O/35. 25th Val Farrell 3rd O/50. 27th Michael Ryan 8th O/40. 29th William Keane 9th O/40 and 34th Shane White 10th O/40.

Barry, Martin, Jim & John won Gold. The B team consisting of Val, Michael, William & Shane placed 4th team. In the O/65 4k men's race we had three from the club compete. I'm 5th place was Liam Butler, 6th place John Moore and Pj Holmes was 7th place. 

IMRA GLENGARRA WOODS RACE

The IMRA Glengarra Woods Race was held in Glengarra on Sunday 21st January. It was a very windy day and a race of two halves. The first half was all uphill with climbs of 194mt, then a mixture of fire roads and soft single marsh trail near the finish. We had one senior athlete and one Juvenile from the club compete.Darren Grayson placed 8th in the 7.3km distance while his daughter Ella was 3rd in the short course of 3k.
