The grand finale of the Rebel Diamond League is set to take place this evening, Friday, May 17th, with the much-anticipated Buttevant RC 4 Mile race. This concluding event, starting at 7:30 PM, will cap off a thrilling series that has seen runners compete in Banteer, Drommahane, and Bweeng. The league, introduced this year, has successfully united clubs and communities through a shared passion for running.
Participants still have time to register online until 5:30 PM today, while in-person registration, costing €18, will be available until 6:50 PM. The event promises a vibrant atmosphere with age category and team prizes up for grabs, and all are welcome to enjoy post-race refreshments in the Buttevant GAA Hall.
Special recognition must be given to those who have participated in all four Rebel Diamond League races. They will all collect their commemorative mug at the GAA complex after the race.
Prize Categories
The competition tonight is fierce, with a wide array of prize categories, including:
- Overall Winners: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for both male and female runners.
- Course Records: Awards for the fastest male and female on the course.
- Age Categories: 1st and 2nd place for males and females in age brackets Over 40, Over 50, Over 60, Over 70, and Over 80.
- Juveniles: 1st and 2nd place for male and female youth participants.
- Wheelchair Competitors: 1st place for both male and female.
- Team Prize: Teams of four, with the first four club finishers counted.
The winners will be honored with the Greenhall sponsored Perpetual Buttevant RC 4 Mile Trophy and individual plaques. Additionally, category winners will be contacted for prize distribution via post, and spot prizes will be handed out during the event.
The Rebel Diamond League has been a remarkable journey, fostering camaraderie and competitive spirit across the participating communities. Tonight's Buttevant 4 Mile race not only marks the end of this series but also celebrates the collective achievements of all the runners who have taken part.
