County Tipperary Junior, Senior, Master Track and Field Championships 2024

On Sunday it was the turn of some of our junior, senior, and master athletes to take to the track for their county championships. We could not have asked for a better day for running. What a championship it was for Moyne AC, with Moyne AC athletes individually claiming 7 golds, 1 silver and 1 bronze, and two sets of gold relay medals to top off the success.

In the junior category Niamh Cleere got the ball rolling in the 100m. Niamh ran a very strong race to finish in 3rd place in a great time of 14.25. Niamh took to the track again in the 200m where she claimed a silver medal in a time of 29.12. Our next junior athlete was Kate Delaney. Kate made a perfect start to her steeplechase career taking the gold medal in junior ladies 2k in a super time of 8.51.9. Well done Niamh and Kate.

Louise Fogarty was our sole representative in the senior ladies category. Louise picked off where she left off on the road claiming the county senior 3km title in a time of 11.38.9. Well done Louise.

Next up was the turn of our master athletes. Naomi Morrissey was first up in the WFD. Naomi added to her large collection of county medals taking the gold with a great throw of 4.71m. Naomi doubled her success a couple of hours later in the shot put taking another gold medal with a fine throw of 6.49m. Well done Naomi. Ber Spillane was next up for Moyne AC. What a day it was for Ber. Ber stormed to victory in the O40 200m, with a personal best performance of 28.68. Ber then took to the track again in the 400m where once again she stormed to victory with another personal best performance of 1.05.72. Well done Ber. Edel Delaney was the next Moyne AC athlete to take to the track. Fresh from her fine performance at night one of the Burma Challenge on Wednesday Edel took gold in the O40 800m in a great time of 02.49.1. Well done Edel.

As the sun continued to beat down on Templemore it was now the turn of our relay teams to take to the track. First up was our senior ladies team. Niamh Cleere, Edel and Emma Delaney and Louise Fogarty flew around the track to claim the gold in a time of 01.00.07. Well done ladies. Finally it was the turn of our senior men’s 4x400m team. Brian O Callaghan on his return for Moyne AC stormed out of the blocks and ran a very strong first leg for Moyne AC. Brian then passed the batton to Moyne AC debutant Tom McGrath who continued to chase down the Clonmel athlete ahead of him. Tom then passed the batton to Dylan McLaughlin who managed to make his way past the Clonmel athlete and into first to leave his brother Aaron with the job of bringing home the victory. Aaron cruised around the track on his return for Moyne AC to ensure the quarter took gold in a great time of 4.00.97. This was the first time since the formation of Athletics Ireland that Moyne took the gold in the County Senior 4x400m competition. Well done lads on their first day out as a quarter.

Thanks to all of the officials and to Templemore A.C. who made the day possible. We would also like to thank the coaches for guiding our athletes to a very successful weekend. It would be great to see as many of our junior, senior and master athletes taking part in the Munster championships in a couple of weeks time.
