The Carraig na bhFear 5K Road Race made a triumphant return on Wednesday, 1st May, drawing a massive crowd of over 300 runners under perfect weather conditions. Participants and spectators alike contributed to an evening filled with joy and sporting spirit, making it a memorable event for the community. The organisers, speaking to Run Republic, extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, especially the event sponsors whose support was instrumental in its success.
The highlight of the night was the remarkable performance of the runners, showcasing their speed, endurance, and determination. Mark Walsh from Leevale AC emerged as the overall winner, blazing through the course with a phenomenal time of 15:51. Fergus Nugent of Eagle AC claimed the second position, crossing the finish line in 16:47, closely followed by Barry Donovan of Cork Track Club, who secured third place with a time of 17:13.
In the Women's category, Linda O’Sullivan displayed exceptional prowess, clinching the victory with a strong performance and a time of 20:15. Geraldine Hartnett followed closely, securing the second spot with a time of 21:43, while Allie Phillips from Carraig na bhFear AC impressed with a third-place finish in 21:49.
The event's success was not only a result of the participants' athletic abilities but also the dedication and hard work of the numerous stewards who ensured the smooth operation of the race. Their coordinated efforts contributed significantly to the seamless execution of the event, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
