Sunday, June 9th, saw adrenaline-fuelled athletes and avid mountain running enthusiasts gather in Moylussa, Co. Clare for the third leg of the IMRA Munster Championship. Following the successful kick-off races in Tomies/Purple Mountain and Slievenamon, this event promised another thrilling display of athleticism and nature's rugged beauty.
Competitors faced a gruelling 15.5km trail adorned with a challenging 583m elevation gain, testing both their physical prowess and mental endurance. As the sun attempted to peek through the clouds, the runners embarked on a journey that would push them to their limits.
In the female category, it was Anita Locke who emerged triumphant, showcasing her exceptional skill and determination. Hot on her heels were Mary Louise Ryan and Mairead O'Keeffe, who secured the second and third positions respectively.
Meanwhile, in the male category, spectators witnessed a fierce battle for the top spot. Ruairi Long emerged as the ultimate victor, his resolve propelling him across the finish line. John Kinsella and Sean Quirke followed closely behind, claiming the second and third positions respectively, in a testament to their formidable abilities.
None of this would have been possible without the dedication and hard work of Race Director Rowan Walsh and his team of volunteers. Their meticulous planning and tireless efforts ensured that participants were met with a well-organised event, allowing them to focus solely on the challenge that lay ahead.
As the dust settles on Moylussa, attention now turns to the next thrilling installment in the Munster Championship – the Carrauntoohill Mountain Race. Set to take place on Sunday, July 14th, this eagerly anticipated event promises to once again push competitors to their limits as they navigate the rugged terrain of one of Ireland's most iconic mountains.
For those passionate about mountain running, the IMRA Munster Championship continues to serve as the ultimate test of skill, endurance, and spirit.
