Streets of Kilkenny 5k

On Thursday evening we had a group of our road athletes taking part in the Streets of Kilkenny 5k. A rapid and tight two lap circuit awaited the athletes. In total 874 athletes crossed the finish line.

First home for Moyne AC was Sharon Cantwell in a great time of 18:48. Sharon was 20th lady across the line. Closely behind Sharon was Patrick Bowe fresh from his fine run at the County Novice Road Championship in Moyne last weekend Patrick finished in a time of 18:57. Next home for Moyne AC was one of the members of the County Novice Ladies second place team, Edel Delaney. Edel finished in a time of 21:21 to place 18th lady over 40. The next group of athletes that raced the 5k were from out Fit 4 Life Group. Martin Kiely led this group home with a great time of 26:30, fresh from his run in Portlaois two weeks ago. Mindy Doyle was next home with a personal best performance of 28.46, knocking 62 seconds off of her PB. Noelle Dempsey was making her competitive debut for Moyne AC on Thursday night and ran a personal best on her first day out. Noelle knocked 3 minutes and 24 seconds off of her time she ran on the final night of the couch to 5k programme to finish in a time of 31.24. Sub 30 is on the way.

Well done to all of our athletes that took part. Thanks to Pop up Races and Kilkenny City Harriers for hosting such a great event.

County Intermediate Road Championships.

The second round of the County Tipperary Road Championship took place on Sunday in a wet Galbally. As soon as the whistle had blown in the ladies race the heavens opened. Despite the difficult conditions the Moyne ladies were on top form once again. A challenging 4km course awaited the ladies. Louise Fogarty led from the gun and won convincingly in a time of 14.55 with 13 seconds to spare, ahead of her teammate Orla Healy who crossed the line in second place in a time of 15.08 to add to her silver medal she won last weekend at the County Novice in Moyne. Angela Fogarty finished in an excellent 7th place position in a time of 16.24 to bring home the gold team prize for the ladies. An excellent two weeks for the Moyne AC ladies a silver in the novice and a gold in the intermediate. Congrats to the ladies on their impressive performances.

As the rain continued to fall the men made their way to the start line. A tough 8km course was in store for the men. Dylan McLaughlin was running well in 7th place up until he picked up an injury after a sharp turn at 5k, Dylan finished in 23rd position in a time of 31.44. A disappointing result for him but he will be back again. Patrick Bowe finished in 28th position in a great time of 32.24. Well done lads.
