Moyne AC Shines in Historic Munster Road Championships

As the juvenile action continued in Nenagh, our road runners made their way to Waterford to take part in the Munster Road Championships. What a day it was for these athletes—perhaps one of the most successful days on the road in the history of our club!

Senior Ladies:

  • Sharon Cantwell – 4th
  • Louise Fogarty – 5th
  • Orla Healy – 6th
  • Senior Club Team – 🥇 1st (Sharon, Louise, Eileen, Orla)
  • Senior County Team – 🥇 1st (Sharon, Louise, Eileen, Orla)

Novice:

  • Sharon Cantwell – 🥇 1st
  • Louise Fogarty – 🥈 2nd
  • Eileen Ely – 🥉 3rd

  • Patrick Bowe – 74th overall (24:33)
  • 10th O50 Individual
  • 3rd County Team O50

What a day of action in Waterford! With so many medals won, it was difficult to keep track. The ladies claimed these titles for the first time in the club’s history since the formation of Athletics Ireland.

Patrick Bowe delivered an excellent performance over the 4-mile distance, securing a top-10 finish in his age category—no easy feat!

National Hepathlon record for Diarmuid O'Connor at the Big East Championships

There was plenty of action globally at the weekend. In the USA at the weekend, several Irish athletes were participating in the US conferences. Diarmuid O'Connor (Bandon AC) smashed the 23 year old Irish Heptathlon record set by Josephs Naughton back in 2002. Cathal Doyle finished 5th at the World Indoor Gold Tour meet in Madrid. Sophie O'Sullivan opened her 2025 year with her fastest ever season opener for a win at the Perth Classic 1500m event. In Florida Peter Lynch (Kilkenny City Harriers) came within seven seconds of John Treacy's 37 year old 15km record.

Seven Leinster Records and an EYOF Qualification Standard

Seven Leinster records, a guest record and a European Youth Olympic Qualifiction Standard were achieved at the Leinster u20, Senior and Masters Championships today in Abbotstown. With National Senior Medallists returning to the Dublin venue for further action, the open nature of the provenical championships is proving to be a catalyst in its success. Thus indicating that there is ample provision for many Irish athletes to race each other without having to go abroad seeking competition.
