The third race in the IMRA Munster Summer/Autumn Trail League took place on a warm summer's day in Rockchapel this past weekend on Sunday, June 2nd. The 3 Counties/S. Luachra race saw participants gather for a fast course that was bound to excite.
This race was a rather quick turnaround for runners as the previous instalment of the league took place just four days prior with the Darby's Bed race on Wednesday, May 29th.
Some incredible performances were turned in over the 11.5km (300m elevation) course which was full of challenges, with a couple of stream crossings, wood trails, and plenty of fire road along the way.
The women's category saw Ide Kelleher claim top spot with a super showing, followed by Maeve O'Grady in second place. Third place went to a friend of Run Republic's in Mags Hassett as she claimed the third and final podium spot on the day.
The men's category saw great performances all round, with Maurice Feehan sealing the victory. Just behind him were John Paul O'Connell in second and Danny O'Connell in third place who both showed tremendous endurance throughout.
A massive shoutout must go to Race Director Mairead O'Keeffe for the seamless execution of this event, along with her team of volunteers on the day who were on hand at all times.
The IMRA Munster calendar continues to thrill as attention turns to the Munster Championship next weekend. Moylussa plays host to race number three of the championships on Sunday, June 9th.
