Unleash the Rebel Spirit in The Rebel Diamond League!

January 24, 2024

Aiming to capture the hearts of communities around County Cork, the Rebel Diamond League launches its inaugural event this March with the Banteer 5 Mile, hosted by Mt. Hillary AC.

The new league will see four races take place in different areas around Cork, bringing clubs and communities together through a collective love for running.

After the first race in Banteer, the league will travel to Dromahane in April, before May sees a race in both Bweeng and Buttevant to conclude the festival of racing.

Run Republic reached out to Deirdre of Mt. Hillary AC to learn more about this exciting new league, 'The Rebel Diamond League is not your typical race series; it's a celebration of community, camaraderie, and the breathtaking beauty of County Cork.

'Designed to promote local running clubs and encourage the benefits of group running, this league is set to become a staple in the regional running calendar.'

March 10th sees the first race, the Banteer 5 Mile, kick off from the village of Banteer and Deirdre told Run Republic that 'the route is very flat, no hills at all. [There will be an] excellent selection of home baking afterwards!'

The organisers of this league have their sights set on making this a league that becomes a fixture in the racing calendar for years to come, and hope to kick off on the right footing this coming March.

'The Rebel Diamond League is more than just a series of races; it's an opportunity for runners across the county and province to bask in the renowned County Cork Hospitality. Join us as we celebrate the spirit of running, community, and the picturesque landscapes that make each race a unique and memorable experience.'
