Six National Records tumble on Day 2 of the National Juvenile Track and Field

Six national records were broken last weekend as juveniles continue to raise the bar across all events. Three of the six were from sprinting events, demonstrating the depth that has come into Irish sprinting in recent years. There was a bit of history in the making too as Tuam AC became the first ever club to take a clean sweap of the medals in any age group, with their girls u14 securing the top three spots in the walk. One of the most impressive victories of the day was the boys u16, 3000m where Luke Merrigan (Leevale) pushed Charlie O'Neill (Donore) all the way to a new national 3000m record. Two Irish greats were on hand to witness the entire show; Ray Flynn and Mary Purcell.

European u18 Silver for Seamus Clarke in the 5000m walk

Another day, another medal. Day 4 saw the medal tally for Team Ireland move to five at the European u18 championships in Slovakia. Seamus Clarke (Moy Valley) recorded a rapid 21.05 to set a new national record, achieve the second fastest time in Europe this year and bring home a sliver u18 european medal - all in the 5000m race walk.

Griggs smashes his own U-23 3000m record by 5 seconds

Four Irish athletes took part in the Diamond League in London today in front of a sellout audience of 60,000. Brian Fay secured a new personal best in the 3000m finishing 7th. Three places behind in 10th Tyrone teenager Nick Griggs smashed his own U-23 3000m record by a full five seconds. Andrew Coscoran finished 5th in a dramastic mile race that saw three athletes tumble. Coscoran recorded a new personal best. In the penulimate race of the day Rhasidat Adeleke opted for the short distance of 200m and recorded a seasons best - just one hundreth of a second off her own 2023 National record.

Gold for Thomas Williams and Bronze for Kelly and Burke

Thomas Williams (Shercock AC) is the new European u18 Hammer Champion. A proud moment for the Cavan man as four out of his six throws surpassed the 70m mark. By his side his father Neil, his mentor and coach watched proudly as his son became the first ever Irish field eventer to take an u18 gold. Two further medals came Ireland's way with Conor Kelly (Derry TC) taking bronze in the 400m in a new national record and Joe Burke (Templemore) also securing bronze in the 200m with another new National record.

Cian Crampton Secures U18 European Bronze

It was a magnificient moment in Banska Bystrica as Cian Crampton (Edenderry AC) secured a bronze medal in the discus at the European u18 European Championships. He is the first ever Irish athlete is medal in a field event to do so. Last years European Youth bronze medalist, broke the Irish u18 record with his second throw and threw to throws over 60m.

The Irish Flag is Flying High at the u18 Europeans in Slovakia

It has been a good day and half at the European u18 Championships in Slovakia, where a team of 35 athletes are performing superbly. Intense heat has been welcomed from the army of supporters that travelled with the team, but difficult for our distance runners. World u18, number 1, Thomas Williams is through to the final round of the hammer as is Cian Campton in the discus. Superb performances from Ethan Dewhirst, Conor Kelly, Ben Sykes, Enya Silkena, Tara O'Connor. Suin Quinn and many more.

The Next Generation - Aoife Martin

Aoife Martin, a 15-year-old athlete from Carraig na bhFear AC, is making waves in the race walking community. Under coach Martin Hurley, she has achieved significant milestones, including being selected for the SIAB 2024, becoming U17 Indoor All Ireland Champion, and setting a personal best at the Kilkenny Grand Prix. Aoife aims to continue improving and representing Ireland in future competitions.

First Diamond League Victory for Adeleke

One year after turning professional Ireland's Rhasidat Adeleke takes her first Diamond League victory over 400m tonight at the Herculis Diamond League meeting in Monaco. Ireland's Ciara Mageean finished 10th in the rarely run 2000m moving to number two on the Irish all-time list. In the same race Jessica Hull (Australia) set a new world record. Other notable performances came from Jakob Ingebrigtsen who recorded a world lead and broke his own European record for 1500m.

Records Tumble at the All Ireland Juvenile Track and Field (Day 1)

Five new championship records were set at the first day of the u13 to u19 juvenile All-Irelands. As anticipated Thomas Williams was in another record demolishing mode, as the obliterated the existing record in the boys u17 hammer by almost seven meters. The world u18 number one is in good form ahead of this months European u18 Championships. Perri Williams recaps on the feats of the new record holders and the accolades of other athletes on the day.
