Juvenile Report

This was the first of a string of busy weekends for our juvenile athletes, and it was great to see athletes competing across a range of disciplines between Friday and Sunday. Congratulations to everyone who represented Moyne Athletic Club so well over the weekend and we look forward to watching the rest of the indoor season unfold. Best of luck to the athletes who are competing in the Munster Relay Championships and the Tipperary indoor championships next weekend.

Munster Indoor T&F Championships u12 - u19

A huge number of juvenile athletes from across Munster made their way to Nenagh Olympic Indoor Track for the Munster indoor championships. Moyne AC was represented by 27 athletes competing in sprints, middle distance, hurdles, jumps and throws over the course of the weekend.

On Saturday, the u12 girls started the day with the 60m. The club was represented by Emily Bergin (10.49s), Olivia Daly (10.96s), Maebh O’Shea (10.18s) and Doireann Quinlan (9.98s), dipping under 10s for the first time! Following on from this PB, Doireann went on to compete in the 600m, where she placed 3rd in her heat in a time of 2.21.03 and in a new event for her, the shot putt, with a best of 3.94m to finish 16th. Both Olivia and Emily continued their day in the long jump competition, jumping 2.52m and 2.54m respectively - well done girls. Maebh also competed in a new event this weekend - high jump - where she jumped 1.10m to finish an incredible 4th, a huge achievement at this level of competition.

The boys u12 kicked off their competition on Sunday. Matthew Esmonde started off the day on the outer track, running a strong 600m in a time of 2.07.24 and finishing 5th in his heat. Darragh Maher was first on the inner track, bravely taking on a new event, the 60m hurdles, finishing in a time of 13.55s. He had a long wait until his second event, the high jump, where himself and Tom Renehan unfortunately did not clear the tough opening height of 1.10m. Tom Renehan had already completed his competition in the shot putt, with a best throw of 5.40m to finish 12th, where he was joined by Geoff Morrissey (4.66m, 16th) and Daniel Delaney who narrowly missed out on the top 8 with a best throw of 6.17m (9th). On the track, Daniel (9.76s), Geoff (10.38s), James Ryan (10.35s), and Tom (9.81s) competed in the 60m, in what was a highly competitive event. James and Geoff also competed in the long jump, with best jumps of 3.14m and 3.22m respectively.

Moving up to u13, the club was represented in the 60m by Faye Murphy and Saoirse Joyce. Both girls finished second in their heats in times of 8.98s PB and 9.40s respectively to take an automatic qualifying spot for the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, Saoirse ran 9.50s, while Faye (8.92s)PB secured a spot in the final, going on to run 8.98s in the final for a seventh place finish. On Sunday, Saoirse returned to Nenagh to compete in the long jump where she jumped a best of 3.75m to finish 12th overall. William Morrissey also competed on Sunday in the shot putt, with a best of 5.04m on the day.

All of the club’s u14 athletes competed on Saturday, across a range of disciplines. Grainne Daly competed in the Long Jump (3.15m) and the 60m (9.93s). Well done Grainne.
