Congratulations to all the athletes who travelled to Ferrybank Open Sports in Waterford this weekend. It was a very successful outing for the club with a number of outstanding performances. In the boys u9 60m, Jim Shanahan stormed to a fantastic 3rd place finish, picking up a bronze medal. The girls u11 were out in force, with Poppy Shanahan, Annabelle Butler, Aoibheann Doyle and Daisy Lyons competing in the 80m. Both Poppy and Annabelle finished on the podium, with Poppy taking gold and Annabelle bronze. Aoibheann just missed out in 4th place. Daisy ran a great heat, finishing 4th. The girls’ combined effort in the u11 relay saw them win overall out of 10 teams, a brilliant performance for this squad!
Darragh Joyce ran the 500m u12, a superb silver medal winning performance. Saoirse Joyce ran the 80m u14, finishing just outside the qualifiers in her heat in 4th place. Well done to all the athletes who travelled to Ferrybank, and to the parents and coaches who made the journey!
Masters Road Championships
The club was represented at the County Masters Road Championships in Clerihan on Sunday when our three master ladies, Eileen McCullagh, Lisa Quinlan and Edel Delaney took on the 6k route. Both the men and ladies raced together with 90 athletes facing the starter. Eileen made her intentions know from the start and dominated the event to claim the ladies title with over a minute to spare on the runner-up. In the combined race she finished 23rd overall in 23.05 and proceeded to win the M40 title. Next across the line in 50th place and eight in the ladies category was Lisa in 25.54 to finish second in the M35 category, followed by Edel Delaney in 57th and 12th in the ladies section in 26.34. The three ladies combined to finish third in the team event, just pipped for silver on countback, continuing the success of the ladies on the roads. One final road event takes place on Saturday evening, 26th April with the staging of the County Novice B Road Championship in Fethard.
Tipperary Post Primary Schools Championships
The county Post primary schools track and field championships took place this week in Templemore. There were a number of superb performances from Moyne A.C. athletes representing Presentation Thurles, Ursuline Thurles and CBS Thurles. While there are too many to mention everyone by name, congratulations to all who competed at the championships. The next event for these athletes will be the East Munster schools which takes place shortly after Easter.
Notable performances include gold for Michael Doyle in the minor boys walk, Caoimhe Slevin in the Junior girls 800m and Alana Spillane in the senior girls 1500m.
Helen Renehan equalled her PB of 1.45m to take gold in the minor girls high jump, and was joined on the podium by Grainne Daly, picking up a silver medal.Silver for Isabelle Murphy in the 100m, also picking up a silver in the shot with a throw of 8.35m. Isabelle was also joined by Abbie Delaney on the gold medal winning presentation relay team in the minor girls competition.Maria Doyle was third in the inter girls discus with a best throw of 18.74.

Saturday 26th April sees the running of our open track & field day with an 11am start time. This is an ideal opportunity for athletes to get in some practice before the County Championships and to also introduce young athletes to Sprinting, Middle Distance, Long Jump, Turbo Javelin, and Shot Put and the always exciting relays. Athletes can enter up to two events plus a relay. Entry and Admission on the day is €5 per juvenile and €5 per adult. Athletics Ireland Permit Approved. All clubs and individual’s welcome. To run any event requires help, if you have a few hours to spare on the day, we would welcome your help. Please contact any of the committee or give your name in at any of our training sessions.
