Dundrum AC Roundup | Week Ending June 14th 2026

What a sensational, action-packed weekend of racing for the Dundrum AC family! Our athletes were out in force across the county and beyond, battling everything from biting headwinds to grueling mid-race hills and blazing summer sunshine.

Through the sweat, the steep climbs, and the heavy legs, the crew brought home personal bests, podium finishes, and Munster titles. Grab a cuppa and dive into this week’s incredible racing action.

Friday, 12th June 2026 | Moycarkey Coolcroo AC 5K

We kicked things off on Friday night by traveling to Littleton for the annual, notoriously flat and fast Moycarkey Coolcroo AC 5K. A massive crowd of 251 runners turned out to take on the course. While the tarmac was beautifully dry, Mother Nature decided to throw some trouble our way with a tough, gusty wind that made everyone work twice as hard on the straightaways.

That didn't stop 13 of our own Dundrum AC members from absolutely flying home, led by a blistering sub-18-minute performance from Wayne Bargary.

Here is how our crew crossed the line:

  • Wayne Bargary – 17:45
  • Shane White – 18:30
  • Ritchie Bresnan – 19:16
  • Paul Bradshaw – 19:31
  • Michael Ryan – 19:33
  • Val Farrell – 19:48
  • Darren Gayson – 20:19
  • John Donnelly – 20:26
  • Karen Coughlan – 20:58
  • Michael Moore – 21:23
  • Declan Hogan – 23:24
  • Micheal Ryan – 26:37
  • Ella Gayson – 27:56

A massive well done to everyone on excellent times and brilliant running under tough conditions!

Friday, 12th June 2026 | Ger Mullane Memorial 10K

Over in Bilboa, three of our dedicated distance runners took on the Ger Mullane Memorial 10K. Talk about a tale of two halves! The evening was lovely and dry, and the route tempted runners with a nice, flat opening stretch before serving up some serious trouble: a relentless wall of rolling, challenging hills right in the middle of the course. Luckily, a lightning-fast downhill finish rewarded them for their grit.

All three of our entries ran masterful tactical races to secure brilliant category finishes:

  • Martin Keane: Crossed the line in a rapid 38:36, securing a fantastic 2nd place in the M40 category.
  • Emily Leahy: Cruised home in 45:59, claiming an impressive 3rd place in the F40 category.
  • Edel Hayes: Fought hard to finish in 52:34, earning a stellar 6th place in the F40 category.
Saturday, 13th & Sunday, 14th June 2026 | Munster Juvenile Track & Field Championships

Our young athletes headed down to the MTU track in Cork for the U15–U19 Munster Juvenile Track & Field Championships, and they absolutely did the club proud over a scorching weekend of elite competition.

Katelyn Shanahan (U15)

Talk about a powerhouse weekend. Katelyn took on three grueling events and walked away with three brand-new Personal Bests! On Saturday, she tackled the Long Jump and the 1500m (finishing 11th overall in 5:27). On Sunday, she left it all on the track in the 800m, placing 2nd in her heat and 6th overall with a brilliant time of 2:32.

Cian Fahey (U16)

Cian put on a superb display of athleticism in both the long jump and high jump. He cleared an incredible 1.55m in the High Jump to secure the Munster Bronze Medal! With this massive performance, Cian officially punches his ticket to the All-Ireland High Jump Final in Tullamore this July.

Albert Maher (U16)

Albert decided to put all his eggs in one basket, focusing solely on Sunday's 3,000m race and boy, did that gamble pay off! He ran an incredibly smart, gutsy race to win the U16 Munster Gold Medal! Clocking a stellar 9:45, Albert claims his very first Munster Track Title and booked his spot at the All-Irelands in Tullamore.

Best of Luck Next Weekend! The action shifts to Tullamore next weekend for the All-Ireland Pairs Competition. We have two incredibly talented duos qualified in the Turbo Javelin:

  • U9 Boys: James Ryan & Paidi Landy
  • U10 Boys: Tim Butler & Lian Crowe Bring it home, boys! The whole club is behind you!
Sunday, 14th June 2026 | Emly 5K Fun Run

The community spirit was alive and well on Sunday for the Emly GAA 5K run, 3K family walk, and 1K kids' dash. The sun came out in full force, making for a beautiful but scorching morning on an out-and-back course that featured a few sneaky, stinging climbs to test the calves.

Our small but mighty crew didn't just participate, they completely dominated the top spots:

  • Wayne Bargary showed no signs of Friday-night fatigue, storming across the line to WIN the race overall!
  • Evan Ryan kept the pressure on to take a fantastic 3rd place overall.
  • Jimmy Hally was hot on his heels, locking down a brilliant 4th place.
  • Mary Keane put on an absolute masterclass, running a phenomenally strong race to finish as the 1st Lady overall.
