Four Irish Athletes Named for World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee

Athletics Ireland has confirmed a four person team for the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida on January 10th, with Irish representation across senior and U20 categories.

While the squad is smaller than the team selected for last weekend’s European Cross Country Championships in Lagoa, the athletes heading to the United States arrive with strong recent form and major championship experience.

🏃‍♂️ Brian Fay - Raheny Shamrocks - Senior Men

Fay tops the bill in the squad after a standout cross country season. The national senior champion from Derry last month, he followed that up with a top ten finish in the senior race at the European Cross Country Championships in Lagoa on Sunday.

That performance helped secure a historic senior men’s team silver medal, Ireland’s first ever senior team podium at the European Cross. Tallahassee will mark Fay’s debut at the World Cross Country Championships.

🏃‍♀️ Fiona Everard - Bandon AC - Senior Women

Everard continues to build a strong championship record at senior level. The national champion impressed in Portugal on Sunday with a tenth place finish in the senior women’s race at the European Cross Country Championships.

🏃‍♀️ Niamh Allen - Bandon AC - Senior Women

Allen joins Everard in the senior women’s event. She placed tenth at the 2024 European Cross Country Championships and followed that with a 23rd place finish in Lagoa last weekend.

🏃‍♂️ Noah Harris - Parnell AC - Men U20

Harris will represent Ireland in the Men U20 race. The Parnell AC athlete is currently based in the United States and rounds out the Irish team heading to Tallahassee.

A Focused Squad for a Busy Season Ahead

The Irish selection is lean compared to the larger team that travelled to the European Cross, with many athletes opting to prioritise the upcoming track season and the World Indoor Championships in Poland this March.
