There’ll be no rest for the wicked on Thursday the 30th o October, as the streets of Limerick come alive under moonlight for the Limerick City Night Run. Starting at 8pm from King John’s Castle Plaza, this five-kilometre dash through the city promises flashing lights, fancy dress, and just the right amount of Halloween chaos. This race promises a mix of night-time racing, live music, and spooky fun that lights up the city before Halloween weekend.
The route winds through the heart of Limerick, taking in Nicholas Street, Patrick Street, O’Connell Street, The Crescent, and O’Connell Avenue to Punches Cross, before looping back under the glow of the city lights to a castle-side finish worthy of a film set. For one night only, King John’s Castle swaps medieval battles for flashing head torches and neon trainers.
Costumes are not just welcome but encouraged. With prizes including return flights for two to Madrid and a €100 shopping voucher, expect fierce competition for the best-dressed crown. There’ll be plenty of witches, ghosts, and superheroes pounding the pavements, though if you’re overtaken by a man in a banana suit, you’re not hallucinating.
Entries are capped at 500 participants, so this is no sprawling city marathon, more a buzzing, close-knit crowd of runners, joggers, and walkers out to earn their sweets before the trick-or-treaters get them.
