The World Mountain & Trail Running Championships finished in Canfranc with a packed schedule of climbs and descents. The final day featured the Classic U20 race, 8 km with 397 m of climb and the Senior Classic Mountain race, a punishing 14 km with 775 m of climb. Ireland’s athletes rose to the challenge, capping four days of rugged competition on the Pyrenean trails.
Girls Under-20 Classic (8k / 397m)

Abby Smith led the Irish quartet home in 45:34 for 39th, followed by Sinéad Farrell in 47:14 for 43rd. Anna McGookin clocked 48:48 for 46th, with Alaoise Geraghty close behind in 49:11 to finish 48th in a field of 61.
Boys Under-20 Classic (8k / 397m)

Women’s Classic Mountain (14 km / 775 m)
Deirdre Collins led the senior team in 1:26:50 for 57th place. Sarah Mulligan followed in 1:28:48 for 62nd, with Louise Murray and Joe Hickman-Dunne finishing close together in 1:30:18 and 1:30:40, taking 67th and 68th respectively.
Men’s Classic Mountain (14 km / 775 m)
Jared Martin paced the Irish men, claiming 43rd in 1:10:11. Killian Mooney finished 53rd in 1:11:30, Matthew McConnell ran 1:15:34 for 85th, and Martin Keohane rounded out the squad in 1:23:14 for 117th.
With these final races, Ireland’s campaign in Canfranc came to a close. Four days of relentless climbing, thin air and brutal terrain tested every runner, and congratulations go to all the Irish athletes who faced the mountains with heart and determination.
